Schoolgirl raped and videotaped in Sreepur, accused youth arrested
A young man raped a third-grade girl in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila on Saturday and recorded the scene on his smartphone. Later, the local people caught the young man, Md. Arman Mia (27), red-handed and handed him over to the police.
Accused Arman Mia is the son of Md. Shamsul Haque of Niguari Union of Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh. The victim of the torture (8) lives in Barmi Union of the upazila.
According to some residents of the area and police sources, the child along with Arman Mia was rescued from the Shalban of Barmi Union of the upazila around 6:30 pm yesterday. The police rescued the child and sent him to the hospital. Meanwhile, the local people arrested the young man and handed him over to the police after a mob lynching. The young man confessed that he committed the incident after consuming Yaba.
Arman has been living in a hut built on the forest department land in Majertek area next to the incident for several years. From there, he works on a daily wage basis in various places.
The father of the child who was tortured said that his daughter could not be found at home since noon. Then they started searching in different places. At one stage, local passers-by heard the sound of screaming in the forest in the evening and went towards it. Later, Arman was caught red-handed in a secluded place in the forest. After being caught, the child said that Arman raped her and recorded the scene on his mobile phone. Later, during interrogation of Arman, it was learned that he recorded several video clips and sent them to the mobile phones of his three friends. After that, he was gang-raped. Later, after informing the police, Arman was given into their custody.
Inspector (Investigation) of Sripur Police Station Md. Shamim Akhtar said that Arman has been brought into police custody. The child who was tortured was rescued and sent to the hospital. Arman, the accused in this incident, confessed to the crime during the initial interrogation. Legal action is under process against him.
